The exact same voters, with the exact same preferences, are run through five different ways of counting a vote — plurality, runoff, instant runoff, approval, and head-to-head pairwise comparison — and the winner keeps changing. Not one voter changes their mind; only the rule for turning ballots into a winner does, and pairwise comparison can even fail to produce a winner at all, when preferences chase each other in a circle.
